  5. If after following this complete file and you still can not reboot to 
  6. Windows you may call our tech line for free support. You will need your 
  7. registration # and version # located at the menu bar, click RESTORE and 
  8. then TECH SUPPORT.

  11. WinSafe Directory and type EDIT RESTORE.TXT

  22.             WHAT IF I CRASH
  23. 1) If you crash and reboot to Windows do not Backup files until you are
  24.     are sure everything is fine. If the system is a little weak you may
  25.     use the RESTORE button. If you have lost the use of your Mouse use
  26.     ALT and the R button then arrow down and Enter.
  27. 2) If you have crashed, you may have rebooted to SAFE MODE: See 
  28.     "WHAT TO DO IF ARE IN SAFE MODE" If not reboot again and press the
  29.     F8 key during boot up when you see the "FOR SETUP PRESS F2". Then 
  30.     select the SAFE MODE This should get you To SAFE MODE. then read 
  31.     WHAT TO DO IF YOU ARE IN SAFE MODE.
  32. 3) If you find yourself at the DOS prompt and unable to get to SAFE MODE see     
  33.         WHAT TO DO IF YOU CAN NOT BOOT TO WINDOWS
  34. 4) If you find yourself at neither place. Place a reboot diskette in A:\
  35.      and reboot wait till the DOS prompt appears and the see
  36.         WHAT TO DO IF YOU CAN NOT BOOT TO WINDOWS

  39.         HOW IS ACCESS WINSAFE IF IN SAFE MODE
  40.     If you get to Safe Mode and do not have a task bar or icons on 
  41. your desktopclick on the Windows button on your key board. Then the 
  42. Taskman will appear, click on file and the Run Application. Then use 
  43. the browser button in the Run Window that will appear next and find 
  44. Winsafty.exe in the Winsafe directory. Then click on utilities and 
  45. then Explorer.

  48.         WHAT TO DO IF YOU ARE IN SAFE MODE
  49. In case of a crash, enter Windows in Safe Mode and access WinSafe95. Click on
  50. the REPORT button; when WinSafe finishes you may view the changes made to 
  51. files. This should be a good start to finding the problem.
  52. If you can, try printing it out. If you are unable to print it out, write
  53. all the information down. Then click the RESTORE button and restart your
  54. computer. You may also select the option of restoring your old configuration.
  55. You can always restore the current configuration later.
  56. All necessary files will be over written with your backup. If this fixes
  57. your problem you may continue and backup at any time. Remember, once you have
  58. used the restore feature, WinSafe95 will not allow you to backup until you 
  59. have rebooted Windows successfully. If you still boot into Safe Mode, use the
  60. WinSafe command. See WHAT TO DO IF YOU CAN NOT BOOT TO WINDOWS.

  63.         WHAT TO DO IF YOU CAN NOT BOOT TO WINDOWS
  64. If you crash to a point that you can only access the C:\>, go to the WinSafe 
  65. directory and type  the word WinSafe at the WinSafe directory. 
  66. Example: 
  67. C:\windows>cd\        (press enter)
  68. C:\>cd\winsafe        (press enter)
  69. C:\WINSAFE>WINSAFE    (press enter)
  70. This instruction file will open and be displayed. All necessary files will
  71. be overwritten with your backup and your Autoexec.bat and the Config.sys will
  72. be deleted. These two files can be restored later using the restore button.
  73. Be sure to read the HOW TO RESTORE section first.

  75. Then type "Edit restore.txt" at the WinSafe directory (if this file did not 
  76. automatically appear).
  77. Restart your computer and enter windows. You will need to fix the problem 
  78. that caused the crash before being able to backup or restore. All the vital 
  79. files will no longer be hidden until you backup again This means you may 
  80. now use windows to copy files. This is so that you may repair the problem. 
  81. If you still can not boot to Windows, use the 
  82. Winsafe1 command at the WinSafe directory.
  83. Example: 
  84. C:\windows>cd\        (press enter)
  85. C:\>cd\winsafe        (press enter)
  86. C:\WINSAFE>WINSAFE1    (press enter)
  87. This will then recopy the registry from the safe (placed there the day you
  88. installed WinSafe95)and your Win.ini and System.ini. If at this point you 
  89. are still unable to get into Safe Mode to look for other conflicts (usually
  90. at this point it is a hardware problem), you should then strip your computer
  91. of all unnecessary hardware including PC cards inside the unit that are not 
  92. essential to operate(i.e.: modem, scanner, sound cards, etc.). If you still 
  93. cannot boot to Windows you will have to reinstall Windows95. Type the word
  94. Winstall at the WinSafe directory and WinSafe will access your cabinet files.
  95. Do not restore with WinSafe95 after reinstalling Windows you may manually 
  96. copy files back but do not copy back the registry, after you are up and
  97.  running, backup.

  100.             HOW TO RESTORE
  101. Do not restore until you have repaired the problem!
  102. After you have booted to windows in Safe Mode you may compare the SYSTEM 
  103. INFORMATION that you saved to the new information that you now have from 
  104. the SYSTEM INFORMATION file. Also look at the MSD file.
  105. After you have booted to Windows and repaired the problem, and you have
  106. rebooted a couple of times you should then backup with WinSafe95. If you 
  107. used the WinSafe command, your problem was most likely a driver or hardware
  108. conflict. Your Autoexec.bat and Config.sys load these drivers. 
  109. These two files load software and hardware drivers that Windows does not 
  110. need to run and all these entries have been made by the software that has 
  111. been added. In most cases, you do not need to run an Autoexec.bat or a 
  112. Config.sys.
  113. To help find your problem replace these two files with empty files as follows:
  114. open notepad and type the word REM on the top line and save as Autoexec.bat
  115. in the c:\ drive; do the same for the Config.sys. Now copy one line from the
  116. Autoexec.bat or Config.sys that is stored in the WinSafe directory into its'
  117. corresponding empty file and reboot. Repeat this process until you can no
  118. longer boot into Windows successfully. When you get locked out of Windows; 
  119. use the WinSafe command, reboot to Windows and fix the problem. Now you can 
  120. click restore on WinSafe95. If WinSafe95 will not allow you to restore, go 
  121. to the c:\ drive in your Explorer. Scroll down in the right window to 
  122. Safe.Exe and double click it. You will now be able to restore without
  123. backing up again.
